@Epifaeny’s Guide to Ancestral Healing

Hey everyone,

So, I recently did a 17-day ancestral healing challenge offered by my friend Moyena Parikh, owner of @Epifaeny, on Instagram. Though I did the challenge for fun, I found it quite profound.

Moreover, after I finished it, ‘ancestral healing’ kept popping up everywhere (like my Instagram feed, though that might just have been the algorithm showing me more of what I like- but hey! the universe works in the same way. :P).

Anyway, I decided that I had to know more about it. So, I thought of interviewing Moyena about Ancestral Healing, instead of the usual ‘research and write’. After all, what better way to learn about something than asking an expert?

Here’s an excerpt from our interview:

Me: Okay, so I’ll get straight into it. What is ancestral healing?

Moyena: Ancestral healing is the work we do to connect with our ancestors and understand how to help and heal them. In this process we heal our entire ancestry.

Me: I see. And what are its benefits?

Moyena: Well you see, when you do ancestral healing, it helps you overcome dysfunctional patterns that you may have inherited; like ego clashes between father and son.

There could also be instances of chronic illnesses like cancer, BP, diabetes, depression, etc., that have been passed down to you; or it could be toxic patterns such as alcoholism, drugs, etc; and lastly there could also be wounded masculine or feminine energy.

For example, as Indian women we may have been taught to be submissive and have people pleasing tendencies which get passed down generation to generation. That is a wounded feminine trait. Another would be having an inferiority complex.

These are the four broad areas that get healed when you heal your ancestral line.

Me: Wow. I can see why it would be beneficial. But, why do you think ancestral healing is relevant in the present times?

Moyena: Well, from a very broad perspective, we as a collective, are ascending. Until now, we belonged to a 3D world, which was very structured and fear based. But now, the energies of the earth are changing, and we are evolving along with the earth.

We are ascending to 5D, which is a higher dimension, in which all our actions are going to be out of love and there is going to be more collaboration and less competition. To evolve into this higher level, it is important to discard old toxic behavior patterns that no longer serve our highest good or current reality.

This is where ancestral healing becomes important, because we have so many inherited beliefs, habits, and thoughts, which aren’t relevant to our reality anymore.

The fact is we need to discard those beliefs and behaviors and lighten up, so that we can evolve and become the most authentic and divine versions of ourselves. This is why I think that ancestral healing is relevant in today’s times.

Me: Amazing. So, as beginners, how can we practice ancestral healing?

Moyena: To start with, you can go to my profile on Instagram, @Epifaeny, where I’ve done a 17-day very basic introduction challenge that you can try out. Just follow the instructions and it’ll give you a very broad idea as to what ancestral healing is all about. You can do all the activities once, and then pick one (or more) out of the 17 that you like and continue practicing it, and maybe find out more about it.

(This is the challenge I mentioned earlier that led me to do this interview.)

I would recommend the Family Tree exercise, as it is a very important part of ancestral healing. Try to draw your family tree and get details about your elders, your siblings and other ancestors. Go beyond your immediate family if you can, especially with respect to birth dates, anniversaries, death dates and so on.

You can also try to find out if your ancestors died from an illness or if they committed suicide; their marital status and other such details. This is a wonderful activity in the current times filled with uncertainty. I would say that it makes absolute sense to connect with others right now, and now you have the perfect excuse to do so and let the magic unfold.

Me: Well, I can’t argue with that. Connecting with loved ones right now is truly magical. That brings me to my next question. I know that you offer an ancestral healing ritual as part of Epifaeny. Can you tell us something about that?

Moyena: Of course. The ancestral healing ritual I offer is a white candle magic ritual that I perform every new moon and during the 16 days of pitru paksha. In that, I take your name and 3 specific intentions you tell me about and inscribe it all on a candle. Then, there is a ritual prayer that is performed.

Additionally, if you’re looking for some guidance from a deceased ancestor I channel messages from them through tarot and oracle cards. Of course, you’ll need to give me some details about them first.

Me: Haha, of course. But coming back to the ancestral healing challenge. How did you come up with the idea for it?

Moyena: Ah, that’s a nice question. You see, I had done Deepak Chopra’s abundance challenge and many other such challenges and I was somewhat inspired.

I have always felt that people aren’t very aware about ancestral healing; nor had I seen any 17-day ancestral healing challenges before. It’s another thing that now other healers have also begun to offer ancestral healing challenges.

But as far as I was concerned, it was a very intuitive decision I took to bring awareness about ancestral healing. I was really sure that some people would connect with the practice, and I was very happy to see a lot of participation.

Initially, I had just prepared random stuff but when I saw the number of people interested, I decided to share more meaningful challenges, based on what I had studied about ancestral healing. I hope that answers your question.

Me: Yep it does. But tell me something about Ho’oponopono. It was the first task in your challenge I remember, and I liked the concept. What was your experience with it?

Moyena: Ho’oponopono is a simple and profound practice that everyone should follow. It has 4 statements: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I thank you. And I love you.”

It’s a Hawaiian technique that is very powerful because the four statements are known to clear any debris in your ancestral line. So I obviously had to begin and end the Ancestral challenge with the Ho’oponopono.

It has helped me in many ways as well. When I did my ancestral healing, I found many wounds related to career, profession, and personal goals. So when I worked on healing my ancestral line in these 3 areas, Ho’oponopono was a part of it.

And the results are for everyone to see. Epifaeny is growing exponentially. There is a lot of healing work that I’ve done using Ho’oponopono and it has helped me very well, and so I had to share it.

Me: That’s great. So we’re almost at the end of our interview. Is there anything more you’d like to tell us about ancestral healing?

Moyena: To conclude, I believe ancestral healing is very much the need of the hour because as souls, when we incarnate on planet earth we take birth as per our previous karma. But, we also choose the womb of the mother based on the family karma. This family karma is the ancestral karma that requires healing.

Most practices focus on healing personal karma. But ancestral karma is a collective karma and when you heal it you are healing a collective. Thus, you are leaving the world a better place and gifting your children a healed and harmonious legacy.

I believe that this is a very responsible thing to do; in fact, every adult should do it. So if you feel you are drawn to it, please be sure to pursue ancestral healing.

So, there you have it. That was Moyena’s (@Epifaeny’s) guide to ancestral healing. Be sure to follow her on Instagram and Facebook for more such information. She offers many workshops related to healing as well; all details are available on her page.

That’s it for now… Until next time folks!!!
