Ways to Expand Your Comfort Zone

Hey everyone,

With the arrival of the second decade of the second millennium, there is an often overwhelming feeling of change. So many things about my life has changed in the past couple of years. I have changed as a person.

I think the reason for this change is the conscious choice I have been making to expand my comfort zone. I keep putting myself in uncomfortable situations, so that I learn to deal with them.

Over the last couple of years, I shifted to a new city, began to live independently, took up a new career path, started a blog, learned acting and screenwriting, quit my job and became a freelance writer. So it’s been one big change after the other. I must say, it has been one hell of a ride and I’ve enjoyed it.

Simple Ways to Expand Your Comfort Zone

Okay so I know that I’ve been taking rather big – almost life changing – steps in my attempt to grow. But you don’t have to. There are easier ways to expand your comfort zone. Here are a few:

Journal Your Way Out

Writing is a great way to organize your thoughts and make them physical.

When you write about your day on a regular basis, you begin to notice things about yourself and you’ll soon have an idea of what your comfort zone looks like (if you don’t already). You’ll find your boundary and then you can expand it.

Moreover, writing forces you to recall and go over your day again, thereby making you more conscious of what you do with your time. In other words, you can say goodbye to autopilot mode as well.

Weave, Paint, Dance

Have an old hobby you’d given up? Like painting, sculpting, dancing, weaving, or perhaps a musical instrument you stopped playing?

Well, get back into it. This is a great way to explore your creative side and to relax yourself. When you stop stressing about things – including your comfort zone – you’ll be able to make the big changes in your life much faster and possibly better.

Moreover, when your creative side is appreciated (by yourself and others) it is a major confidence boost.

Change It Up

Make little changes in your day-to-day lives. Take a different route to work; rearrange your furniture or your closet (or both); cook a different menu at home or order something other than your usual favorites. You could even change your appearance; get a new hairstyle and wardrobe.

All of these little changes eases you for the big ones, making them easier to do. Moreover, changing things up every once in a while stops you from falling into autopilot mode again.

Find Your Tribe

Networking and meeting new people are great ways to get out of your comfort zone, particularly if you are introverted like me.

A great way to do this is to join a group for an activity that you like. For example, a book club, a trekking group, a photowalk, or even a heritage walk. Take your pick of an activity and find a group.

By doing this, not only are you stepping out of your comfort zone, but you may also just make some lifelong friends.

Love Yourself And Succeed

Lastly, just remember that you are perfectly fine as you are. But it is human nature to expand and grow, and taking steps for the same is a part of taking care of yourself. If you don’t work toward expanding your comfort zone on your own, your life will do it for you and that would be a far less pleasant ride.

So, take charge of your life, so that it is you that calls the shots and not the other way around!

That’s it for now. Until next time folks!!
